You Should Stay at the Best Hotel in Porto

When I came to Porto, I expected the charm of tiled facades, river views, and cobbled streets. What I didn’t expect was to find the best hotel in Porto…one that made me slow down, breathe, and appreciate mornings in a way I hadn’t in a long time…right in the middle of the city. That hotel was Editory Garden Hotel Porto.

Checking In at Editory Garden Hotel

From the moment I checked in, I knew this wasn’t going to be a cookie-cutter hotel experience. I was welcomed with mini pastéis de nata, the perfect “welcome to Portugal” moment. It was a small gesture, but it set the tone and made me feel like a guest instead of just another booking.

The staff immediately stood out for their kindness and attention to detail. Rafael, the receptionist, went out of his way to share nearby recommendations and his personal favorites. He pointed me toward things to see, places to eat, and even his personal favorites. Thanks to him, I ended up at Brasão for a francesinha, which turned out to be one of my most memorable (and meaty) meals in Porto.

Since I arrived early, I left my luggage at the front desk before exploring the city. When I came back later, they told me my bags were already waiting in my room. Walking in, I saw that my luggage had been put away, my jacket was hung neatly, and there was a beautiful display of brownies, cookies, and a sample of port wine waiting for me at the desk. It was thoughtful, personal, and made me feel instantly at home.

The Room

My room was on the second floor and was cozy, calm, and comfortable. The design was simple and modern with warm tones that made it easy to relax. The bed was comfortable, the layout practical, and everything felt intentional. Even without a garden view, the feeling of care carried through. And before checking out, they invited me to come take a look at another room that was specifically decorated for a couple’s anniversary. I loved being able to see a completely different set up than the one I had, but I could still see the consistency in the thoughtful touches around the room.

The heart of Editory Garden Hotel has to be its courtyard. Hidden right in Baixa, it feels like an actual urban retreat inside the city. I loved coming down in the morning for coffee and sitting amongst the greenery. Porto can be lively and full of energy, but having this peaceful corner to return to gave me balance, and I was very grateful for that.

Breakfast at Clorela

You guys already know I am all about good food. And because of that, I think breakfast here deserves its own mention. Clorela, the hotel’s restaurant, is surrounded by plants and filled with natural light. The menu focuses on seasonal and plant-forward options, and everything tasted fresh and considered. Sitting there with coffee and pastries from the stunning breakfast buffet while the morning light poured in felt like the kind of perfectly slow moment that I crave in the morning before starting a day of exploring.

Baixa is where Porto feels most alive. Staying here means being within walking distance of landmarks, cafés, and plenty of hidden corners waiting to be discovered. I loved being able to step right out into the heart of the city and then return to the calm of the garden whenever I needed to recharge.

Where to Eat Nearby

Brasão Coliseu francesinha

Brasão Coliseu – perfect spot to try the famous francesinha (vegetarian version too!). This one came recommended by Rafael at the front desk and he did not miss.
Churrasqueira Kinay – a no-frills local favorite for grilled foods and Portuguese comfort food.
A Escola by The Artist – creative dishes served in a uniquely artistic setting by students from Porto School of Hotel Management and Tourism. Watch me enjoy it here!
Café Santiago – another local favorite for francesinha, casual and always buzzing.
Manteigaria – famous for pastéis de nata, and you can actually watch them being made fresh right in front of you. (It’s right around the corner from Mercado do Bolhão!)
Amorino Gelato – the staff here are so kind, and if you choose a cone they’ll shape your gelato into a rose with as many flavors as you’d like.
Majestic Café – one of Porto’s most iconic and historic cafés, known for its ornate interiors and history. Even if you just stop for coffee, it feels like stepping back in time.
